I sculpted this life-size animatronic cow for the Dublin-shot horror film Isolation (2005). Real cows are not that fussed about acting, so it was our job to build a realistic fake that could stand in for some of the more demanding shots - such as giving birth to a funny little monster. :D
After years of sculpting things on my kitchen table it was a rare treat to work on something this *big*. Just to stay on schedule, we split it into a two-man job - I sculpted what you see here, and Tristan Versluis crafted the back half. The finished clay sculpture was then moulded and duplicated as a furry mechanical puppet that could stamp its feet, move its head, waggle its ears and so on. One of the many projects I did at Bob Keen's Image FX at Pinewood Studios in the late '90s and early 2000s.
